April 23, 2026, Submitted to the Seward Folly by Seward Prevention Coalition
Seward, Alaska: Seward Prevention Coalition / Youth360 invites families, caregivers, educators, and community members to attend Navigating Together: Technology, Social Media, and Youth Mental Health, a community screening and conversation happening on Wednesday, April 29, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Seward High School.

The evening will feature a screening of the documentary Screenagers: Next Chapter, followed by a hopeful, action-oriented community conversation focused on youth mental health, screen use, social media, and practical local resources for families. Dinner and childcare will be provided.
This event is designed to be more than just a film screening. Organizers hope to create a meaningful community gathering that helps families better understand the realities young people are facing in today’s digital world, while also re-centering on the strengths, supports, and solutions that already exist in Seward.
The event is being framed through the Icelandic Prevention Model, a community-based approach that emphasizes reducing risk and strengthening the environments around young people through connection, support, healthy opportunities, and shared responsibility.
Rather than focusing only on individual behavior, the evening will invite community members to think together about how families, schools, organizations, and the broader community can help create the conditions that support youth wellbeing.
“This is not meant to be a doom-and-gloom event,” said Andrew Scrivo of Seward Prevention Coalition / Youth360. “We want this to be an honest but hopeful conversation. We know technology, social media, and youth mental health are important issues, and we also know that in a community our size, this work feels personal and doable. These are our kids, and we have real strengths and resources here to build on.”
Following the film, attendees will hear brief introductions from community resource partners, including representatives from GCI, Arctic Tern Psychology, Seward Schools, Seaview Youth and Family Services, Careline Crisis Services / 988, and the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education. Afterward, guests will have the opportunity to connect more informally over dinner, conversation, and resource sharing.
The event is intended for a broad community audience, including parents, caregivers, grandparents, educators, mentors, and anyone invested in the wellbeing of youth in Seward.
This event is made possible in part through the generous support of GCI Gives.
