The Bear Creek Community Council Bylaws Committee is pleased to announce that the final draft of the BCCC bylaws has been completed, and the next steps are moving forward. Bylaws are linked at the bottom of this article.

At the last general meeting, we received overwhelming support along with helpful suggestions and feedback on the previous drafts. We also received input from residents who were unable to attend in person. All of this feedback was incorporated into the final version.

The draft was also reviewed by an attorney experienced in nonprofit organizations to ensure the bylaws are clearly written, consistent with the State of Alaska nonprofit standards, and structured to support the council as it grows into a strong unified voice for the community.

Bylaws Vote & Board Election

Date: May 4
Location: Spruce Lodge

Polls open: 3:00 p.m.
Ballots sealed: 7:30 p.m.

There will be two ballots issued at sign-in:

1. Vote to adopt the bylaws (YES or NO)
2. Vote to elect the first 7-member board

Voters will be asked to sign in and show a Bear Creek voter ID or photo ID, which will be verified against the Bear Creek precinct voter rolls. A registrar will also be available for new voters.

Please consider running for the board.  

Terms are for two years, although initially there will be three one-year seats. The board will elect the officers: Chairperson, Vice-chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Sergeant at Arms, and two Members at Large.

You must be a registered voter in the Bear Creek voting precinct to be a member of the BCCC and a board member.  Monthly meetings will be held.

The board ballot will contain seven spaces, allowing voters to write in the names of the candidates they wish to elect. Declared candidates will have an area to display their names, and write-in candidates are allowed.

If you are interested in serving on the board, we encourage you to spread the word to your neighbors and encourage them to participate and vote.

Ballots will be counted at the conclusion of voting, and the seven candidates receiving the most votes will be announced.
