I am writing to express a perspective regarding the continuous visibility of the LGBTQ+ community in public spaces. It is often stated by advocates that they wish to avoid public criticism and judgment. However, by continually bringing these private matters into the public square, public reactions and criticisms are naturally invited.

True respect is a two-way street, and it begins with how a group conducts itself; one must demonstrate self-respect in their public presentations in order to earn the respect of the wider community. What individuals choose to do in their private lives is their own business, and most people are perfectly content to let others live as they please. The concern arises when private identities are prominently displayed in public venues and media, which can feel to many like it is being forced upon the public.

If the goal is to reduce conflict, a return to respecting the boundary between private life and the public sphere would be beneficial for everyone. Keeping private matters private allows for a more cohesive environment where everyone can coexist without unnecessary friction.
