For April’s student of the month, we have a special one, our very own Emery Kirchner. Now, I have known Emery ever since 5th grade before any of you guys got the chance to because we went to Moose Pass School together. Emery is someone who has been just a genuine and kind soul from birth. He is always going out of his way to be nice to others and to help them when they are down. It is for these reasons that he got the honor of being deemed the student of the month for April. With his hard work, compassion for others, well-fitting jeans, and always staying hydrated, he is a perfect candidate for this recognition.

“Emery is humble, down-to-earth, and always makes people’s day a little better.”

I got the honor of interviewing this sophisticated blue-collar man; he does an amazing job at balancing his blue-collar-ness as well as his positive academic attitude. He is truly engaging to have conversations with in my ELA class, and it is an honor to have him at our table. He always has short but insightful answers to questions, and his intelligence feels natural and not forced or studied. He is humble, down-to-earth, and always makes people’s day a little better.

Alrighty, let’s jump right into the interview. The first question I asked Emery was how he feels about being recognized as the student of the month. His answer was confident yet relaxed; he said, “Um, surprised,” which highlights how humble he is in his academic earnings. The second question that I asked him is what motivates him to excel in his studies. Another chill, subdued yet confident answer: “To achieve my diploma.” When asked about his favorite subject, Emery said, “Definitely language arts; it makes me think and gets me out of my comfort zone.” Knowing him, this is evident; I see his brain shine while he participates in ELA discussions.

“Just be positive and stay kind, and whenever you see someone in need, help them.”

I then asked him how exactly he balances schoolwork with extracurricular activities, and he responded with, “I try to get my work done mostly in class; I really never have homework.” This shows capability to stay focused and get work done in class (like a boss). I then asked him about what his future academic goals are. He said, “To achieve a 3.5 GPA before I graduate.” This is an amazing goal and something I myself am looking forward to achieving. His advice for anyone who wants to be student of the month in the future is “Just be positive and stay kind, and whenever you see someone in need, help them.” April’s student is special, caring, and kind. I and all of the faculty are so proud of Emery and his academic and social greatness.
