Bear Creek, Alaska — The Bear Creek Community Council held its inaugural bylaws vote and board election on May 4 at Spruce Lodge, marking a major step in forming a unified voice for the community.
More than 300 votes were cast. Voters overwhelmingly approved adoption of the Council’s bylaws, with over 290 “Yes” votes. A total of 11 declared candidates, along with several write-in candidates, participated in the election.
The following seven candidates were elected to serve as the Council’s first board, listed in order of votes received: Ryan Parsons, Maya Benavente-Moriarty, Bart Elhard, John Hughes, Lori Landstrom, Nathan Smith, and Rodney Roemmich.
The newly elected board has begun coordinating next steps in accordance with the adopted bylaws and community input. Initial priorities include establishing the Council as a formal nonprofit organization.
The Council thanks all residents who participated and helped make this process a success. Additional updates and meeting information will be shared in the coming weeks.
