Psalms 133:1 – 3 NKJV
“1 – Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! 2 – It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard. The beard of Aaron, running down the edge of his garments. 3 – It is like the dew of Hermon, Descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the Lord commanded the blessing – Life forevermore.”

In order for us to apply this scripture to our lives, we need to focus on actively building unity in relationships by practicing humility, gentleness, and forgiveness, recognizing this harmony as a refreshing blessing from God that strengthens our community and reflects Christ’s love, much like precious oil or morning dew.
Practically, this means initiating reconciliation, listening with understanding, showing kindness, and working to maintain peace even when it is difficult.
Unity in the church and community is a purposeful, active commitment to oneness in Christ, transcending differences to foster mutual support, love, and shared mission. When the church is grounded in humanity and the Gospel, this unity strengthens believers, acts as a powerful witness to the world, and drives collaborative service to address social, relational, and spiritual needs.
So, for us to be better together than we are apart, we need to learn to accept people for who they are and look beyond their faults to see their needs. Additionally, learning to agree to disagree and realize that we are all human and make mistakes.
Unity in life means finding harmony, connection, and shared purpose by recognizing our common humanity and interconnectedness, fostering compassion, overcoming division, and aligning inner self with outer actions for collective well-being, often seen as crucial for peace, survival, and spiritual growth.
It is about seeing beyond difference to build stronger communities and finding an inner balance to work together for the common good, transforming individual lives and the world.
Key Aspects for Unity in Life
- Interconnectedness is realizing that all beings and things are a part of a greater whole, despite apparent differences.
- Inner harmony of self-unity is aligning your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects for wholeness and authenticity.
- Compassion and empathy are looking beyond oneself.
- Valuing others and fostering understanding.
- Building bridges and recognizing shared purpose in working with others for common goals, strengthening the community and its well-being.
- Overcoming division and actively choosing to build connections rather than walls based on race, religion, or other differences.
- Ultimately, unity is a conscious choice to connect and contribute, working against isolation and division.
So, we are better together than we are apart.
Let’s examine our hearts and minds and seek God on how we can unify together and be a shining example of Him.
“May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus.” Romans 15:5 NLT
