The Seward Seahawks boys’ basketball team started their season with a 65-62 comeback win against Lumen Christi at home in Seward this past weekend.

Lumen Christi took control early, using their height, defense, and fast guards to pull ahead. Seward’s offense struggled as Lumen’s rebounds and inside shots pushed the lead to as much as 15 points. By halftime, Seward had trimmed the spread, trailing 31-28.

After the break, Seward adjusted. Coach Plan emphasized smart, disciplined play, reminding his team that every possession mattered in a close game. The Seahawks took that advice to heart, tying the score in the third quarter and then moving ahead 42-36 at the start of the fourth.

As the final quarter began, the energy in the gym shifted. The game became intense, with both teams trading baskets and neither side giving an inch. Spectators from both schools stomped the bleachers, making the gym loud and adding to the pressure on the court. Lane Petersen hit several long three-pointers, Jamis Hartman scored on layups, and Emerson Cross added an inside basket, giving Seward a 65-62 lead late in the fourth. The Seahawks’ defense held on in the final moments to secure the win.

Seward’s season is off to a strong start, and fans will have plenty of chances to watch the team in action because the next seven games will be played at home in Seward. The Seahawks face Redington High School Friday at 3:00 p.m.
