Seward High School is proud to recognize Grace Schaefermeyer as the October Student of the Month. Grace says she was “surprised, but thankful” for the honor, which reflects her silent humility and gratitude to her school community.

Grace’s favorite subjects are science and math. She loves exploring these fields because they help her understand how the world works and what knowledge can be applied to real-life problems. She hopes to continue exploring these interests in college, where she plans to study any type of environmental science, ideally at a school in Alaska.

Balancing schoolwork with life outside the classroom comes naturally to her. “I do school when I’m at school and home stuff at home,” she says, keeping each part of her life straightforward and organized.

Grace credits Ms. Swander as one of her most influential mentors, noting that the ELA class discussions on modern events creating interesting comparisons, are so thought-provoking that she continues reflecting on them years later.

Although some of her extracurricular activities haven’t started up yet this semester, Grace looks forward to joining programs like T3 and pursuing opportunities such as any science program she can enroll in, NOSB, or SeaLife Center internships. She is already active in the National Honor Society, participating in multiple service projects, and also volunteers through her church to support community members.

Grace encourages other students to seek help when they need it and to make the most of their time at school. “Talk to your peers and teachers for help,” she advises. “Explore your interests.”

Seward High School celebrates Grace not just for her academic strengths, but for her unyielding curiosity, overflowing kindness, and relentless dedication to making a difference. Congratulations to Grace, October’s Student of the Month!
