Seward Nordic Ski Club invites community to annual gear swap, rental program, and film festival — join the club, enjoy member perks, and celebrate winter

The Seward Nordic Ski Club (SNSC) welcomes the public to a full day of winter festivities on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the K.M. Rae Building. This year’s event features the much-anticipated outdoor Gear Swap, the launch of the winter Ski Equipment Rental Program, a hearty soup lunch, and a special evening screening of the 2025 Backcountry Film Festival.

The action starts at 11 a.m. for SNSC members, who receive exclusive early access to both the gear swap and the club’s ski equipment rental sign-up. Most rental equipment is sized for youth, making this a great opportunity for families looking to outfit young skiers for the season. The public is invited to shop or inquire about leftover rentals from 12 to 2 p.m. Whether you’re looking to snag a bargain on gently used gear, find the right skis for your child, or simply enjoy the lively marketplace, there’s something here for everyone.

Families and ski enthusiasts can also enjoy a homemade soup and bread lunch for just $5 per bowl. With desserts and hot drinks to round out the meal, it‘s the perfect midday break while catching up with neighbors and club volunteers.

If you’d like to sell outdoor equipment, bring it in between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., and be sure to pick up anything unsold by 2 p.m. All unclaimed items will be donated to SNSC.

The day doesn’t end at the swap. Everyone is invited back to the K.M. Rae Building at 6 p.m. for the 2025 Backcountry Film Festival. In partnership with Winter Wildlands Alliance, the festival shares captivating stories of human-powered adventure from around the globe. The screening is free and open to all, and is a rare chance to gather as a community and celebrate the wild spirit of Alaska’s winters.

SNSC supports groomed ski trails throughout Seward and Moose Pass, and works year-round to foster a love of the outdoors. This winter, thanks to generous grants from the Seward Community Foundation, SNSC will once again provide Jr. Nordic Programs for youth, including every Seward Elementary second-grader.

SNSC will also have popular adult ski instruction clinics. SNSC’s volunteer coaches have taught over 100 adults in recent years, and clinics (including follow-up tours for participants to practice) will be offered on select Saturdays throughout the season.

All clinics and lessons are exclusively for SNSC members. Memberships are available online or at the event, and volunteers are always needed to help the club’s programs thrive. There has never been a better time to become part of the SNSC family and help support Seward’s vibrant ski community.
