Seward High School was awash in neon and energy last Saturday night as students packed the cafeteria for this year’s homecoming dance, “Get Your Glow at HOCO.” The SHS Student Council transformed the school with black lights, glowing decorations, and enough dance floor energy to light up the whole town.

The evening’s main event came when varsity cross country athletes Sampson Antrim and Lucy Bamford were named homecoming king and queen. Both runners had just returned from standout performances at the regional championships in Anchorage the day before.

“It was definitely a surprise, but it was fun!” Bamford said, smiling. “Everyone who helped decorate did amazing!”

Keeping the mood upbeat was student council advisor and math teacher Joel Williams, who took a turn behind the DJ booth.

“I am a new DJ, so getting to play at homecoming was a really fun experience, and great practice,” Williams said. “My favorite parts were decorating, and watching the kids dance to the Cupid Shuffle.”

The celebration came on the heels of the Seahawk football team’s resounding 70-0 victory over Nikiski on Friday night—a win that secured the “Fish Bowl” trophy for the fourth year in a row. That same competitive spirit carried over to the dance floor, where students showed off their best moves under a swirl of lights and glowing patterns.

Student council members provided glow sticks, while the student body took care of the rest, making this year’s homecoming one to remember.

If you missed the football team’s big win, there’s still time to catch the action: The Seahawks host their final home game of the season this Friday against Monroe, with kickoff at 4:30 p.m. and Senior Night recognition at 4. Volleyball fans can catch the team in action all weekend, starting Friday at 3 p.m. There’s no shortage of chances to support Seward High sports—and maybe pick up a little of that homecoming glow.
