The Seward Seahawks stormed back into the win column on Saturday, overwhelming Valdez with a jaw-dropping 78-0 victory in Nineman Football League action. Under clear skies at the Buccaneers’ home field, Seward put on a clinic, dominating from the opening whistle to the final buzzer.
With the win, the Seahawks improve to 4-1 on the season and are now gearing up for one of the most anticipated games of the year. This Saturday, September 26, at 5 p.m., Seward hosts the Nikiski Bulldogs in what promises to be a spirited contest for the coveted Fish Bowl traveling trophy. The Fish Bowl, a symbol of the friendly rivalry between Nikiski and Seward, will stay with the winner for the next year.
Saturday’s match against Valdez was about more than just the scoreboard; it was a showcase for Seward’s depth, especially the younger players who stepped up and played much of the game. Head coach Mallory was quick to praise his squad, noting how valuable the experience was for the team’s rising stars.
“It was a great opportunity for our young guys to get out there and play almost the whole game. We’re proud of the kids and their effort,” Mallory said afterward.

Freshman quarterback Chiron Cross took full advantage of his time on the field. Chiron threw two touchdown passes; one to Hunter Price and another to Kohana Albino. Chiron also broke free for a rushing touchdown, capping off a breakout performance that bodes well for the Seahawks’ future. Another bright spot was Quinn Humbert, who also found the end zone.
Veteran leaders were still front and center, with Lane Petersen running in three touchdowns and Emerson Cross notching both a rushing touchdown and two touchdown passes. Ridge Conant also contributed two touchdowns, while Cam Schrock powered through for another score.
With just days to go, the Seahawks are riding high on confidence. The Fish Bowl trophy is up for grabs, and the team has a real chance to celebrate their progress on their own turf. On what’s sure to be a rainy day, they’ll get to put the new artificial field to the test in front of the home crowd.
