The Forest Service is actively improving the first five miles of the north end of the Lost Lake trail, starting at the Primrose trailhead. Crews are placing gravel on roughly 4,000 linear feet of trail, targeting stretches that have a history of being consistently wet and muddy. Rather than surfacing a continuous section, the gravel will be distributed in key problem areas over the five-mile length to enhance accessibility and durability.

The Primrose Trail itself is maintained as a multi-use Class 3 trail, open to hikers and mountain bikers in summer and snowmachiners during winter. On the Forest Service’s development scale, Class 3 trails are designed to provide backcountry access with manageable obstacles and a moderate level of challenge. The current work is intended to bring the Primrose Trail more closely in line with this standard — making it more accessible and enjoyable for a wider range of users, while also ensuring that the trail can be sustainably maintained well into the future.
