Seahawks soar past Bulldogs, extend three-year undefeated streak

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, August 16, 2025, the Seward Seahawks proved once again why they’re the team to beat in Alaska’s nine-man football, rolling to a 54-12 victory over the Nikiski Bulldogs in their season opener. The win extends Seward’s remarkable undefeated streak, which has now spanned three years under head coach Tyler Mallory.
Quarterback Emerson Cross was unstoppable, rushing seven times for 49 yards and three touchdowns. Cross also went 5-of-10 passing for 160 yards, tossing two more scores to cap a five-touchdown day.
Wide receiver Lane Petersen was a prime target, catching four passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
“Emerson’s been a leader for us for years. He’s a great kid. He works hard and holds himself accountable and holds others accountable. Lane had a great game. He’s playing through some injuries, but he had a great game on offense. They (Nikiski) fought hard and we scored twice on defense. You can’t ask for much more than that.”

On defense, the Seahawks were just as dominant. Micah Brueckner led the charge with a monstrous 20 tackles, including six tackles for a loss, keeping the Bulldogs’ offense in check.
Ridge Conant added two defensive touchdowns to the highlight reel: he scooped up a fumble in the first quarter for a score and later returned an interception 45 yards in the third quarter for another touchdown, swinging momentum firmly in Seward’s favor.
Nikiski, playing their first game with new head coach Mark Smith, fought valiantly but couldn’t crack the Seahawks’ relentless attack on either side of the ball.
With their 54-12 win, the Seahawks look poised to continue their reign atop nine-man football, their streak now a daunting challenge for the rest of the league.
