The Tsunami Swim Club demonstrated outstanding performance at the recent South Central Area Championship Meet, held at Seward High School Pool this past weekend. The meet, which brought together four teams and 142 swimmers aged 6-15 from across the region, proved to be a landmark event for the Tsunami program.

Forty-seven Tsunami athletes competed against swimmers from Kachemak Swim Club, Peninsula Piranhas Swim Team, and Soldotna Silver Salmon. The results were impressive, with Tsunami swimmers achieving personal bests in more than half of their events. Out of approximately 187 individual races, team members recorded 92 personal best times and completed 47 new event attempts.

“The community support was tremendous,” noted head coach Solomon D’Amico. “This encouragement bolstered our athletes’ performances.” 

Several relay teams secured top positions, and several swimmers earned top-three placements in their respective age group rankings.

The meet served as a qualifying opportunity for upcoming championships, with ten swimmers achieving new qualifying times for the Age Group Championships. This success brings the team’s total number of summer championship qualifiers to 17.

The impressive showing at this meet underscores the dedication of these young athletes and their coaches. As these swimmers continue to develop and improve, the future looks bright for the Tsunami Swim Club.
