The Seahawks found their stride this past weekend, with back-to-back wins adding a shot of confidence, according to team captains Lane Petersen and Emerson Cross.
Petersen, reflecting on the tough stretch of recent close losses, said, “We’ve had some tough ones. We need to hustle and play together. Every team wants the win as much as we do. We needed a few wins to get us into a winning mentality and to stay moving forward.”
The Seahawks delivered exactly that. On Friday night, they swept past Nikiski with a dominant 70-38 victory. A day later, they won against Su-Valley 78-46.
Cross, clearly energized after the victories, said, “I feel really good winning these games this weekend. It’s hard to lose the close games, and a win eases the tension, especially in the last minutes of the game.”

With the wins, Seward improves to 2-5 on the season, a record that finally reflects the effort the team has been pouring into the series of home games. Both captains say the victories help build belief within the squad and set the tone for the weeks ahead.
There’s little time to savor the success. This weekend is the Seahawk Classic Basketball Tournament. There will be varsity squads from Kenai, Bethel, and Unalaska, with each team playing three times between Thursday and Saturday. The tournament promises plenty of action and a showcase for local high school talent.
